Each month, we will be producing a short podcast designed to help educate and inform businesses of the risk posed by cybercrime. You can find all episodes below.

Episode One

This episode focuses on guidance for the Travel and Tourism industry, and is hosted by Justin Torgout, Director of The Cyber Resilience Centre for the South East, who was joined by, Chris White, Head of Cyber and Innovation for the Cyber Resilience Centre for the South East and Katie Watts, a Cyber Protect Officer for Thames Valley Police.

Episode Three

The Cyber Resilience Centre for the South East is urging businesses within the health and beauty industry to be extra vigilant and to take action to help secure their businesses from cyber criminals who are looking for opportunities to strike.

Join Chris White, serving Detective Inspector and Head of Cyber and Innovation at the Cyber Resilience Centre for the South East, Tom Huckle Director of Consultancy for Marclay Associates and Nick Harris, Associate Director Information Security and Cyber Resilience for Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd as they cover off why these sectors are particularly at risk from cyber crime and what action businesses can take to strengthen their cyber security and minimise the risk.

Episode Four

The SECRC is warning local charities to be vigilant and take extra steps to help keep cyber criminals out of their organisation. This comes after the Cyber Security Breaches 2021 survey, which is published by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport revealed that in the last 12 months 26% of charities had been hit by a form of cyber-attack.

 

Among the 26% identifying any breaches or attacks, 79% had phishing attacks, where attackers attempt to obtain sensitive data by pretending to be a trustworthy source, have been the most common threat, 23% were impersonated and 17% had malware (including ransomware).

Episode Five

This episode focuses on guidance for the education sector and is hosted by Chris White. In this episode, Chris was joined by Heather Hadfield who is the consortium manager for South East Grid for Learning (SEGfL) and Dai Thomas, Director of E-Learning & Digital Services at a Secondary Academy school in Sussex.

 

In this episode, Chris, Heather and Dai discuss the top threats facing the education sector and reflect on ransomware attacks that have made the headlines when they hit schools across the UK in the last 12 months. Together, they also share some top tips for those in education so they can help keep their schools, students and employees out of harms way.
